A letter from Pastor Eilers to the congregation:
" So, by way of introduction, here's a brief sketch of my history. I was born and raised on a farm in southern Idaho. I'm a product of our church body's emphasis on education, attending parochial school in my home congregation, then as a sophomore in high school starting the eleven year journey through the synodical system toward becoming a pastor, graduating from Concordia Seminary in St. Louis in 1970. The real training of becoming a pastor began in that year with a call to two congregations in and near Springfield, Illinois. After twelve years in Illinois, I accepted a call to Bellevue Washington where I served for 19 years, then accepted a call to West Seattle where I served another 10 years.
When I "retired" I went into interim ministry work, where I have served for 12 years. I met Ginny in St. Louis in my first year of seminary, she being a Valparaiso student nurse at Lutheran Hospital. We married at her home church in Inglewood California just before going on vicarage together in the Chicago suburb of Roselle. Our three children, now married with children of their own, were born in those first years of ministry in the Springfield area. Ginny has nursed in a variety of settings, the last being as director of nursing at a Jewish facility in the "pill hill" area of Seattle. Two of our children live in the immediate area of Gig Harbor where we live. Three of our four grandchildren are in college or post-graduate training. The youngest is a junior at Gig Harbor High School.
As with any person their "resume" tells only a fraction of their history, and next to nothing of their personhood. For that we will have to learn together as we walk this section of our pilgrimage. I thank you for having asked me to walk with you this section of your journey, and I look forward to what you will share with me about yourselves and what God will reveal in our walk together. For it truly is a pilgrimage, this life of faith, and its meaning is revealed in the journey."
We look forward to Pastor Eilers' guidance as we look for another Pastor after Pastor Brynestad's recent retirement!
